Visiting for a rather chilly autumnal Monday afternoon lunch, although the pub was rather quiet there is a real nice vibe with the new decor following their refurbishment by Hush Heath, (a great local winery, check them out) and the staff are very courteous, adding to a real nice feel about the place. The waitress offered us the restaurant or bar to sit down advising the bar may be more comfortable where it was rather quiet, which was a credit to their hospitality, small considerations go a long way. I had a vegetarian Linguine (£10) off the specials board which was great. My wife had a burger (£12) (often a bone of contention with restaurants and myself), which was pretty OK actually (despite the brioche bun and wooden board (two of my points of contention!), there are some pretty disappointing burgers in this area! I will return to dig deeper into their menu, there was a minute steak was about £15.00 which is getting to the lumpy side for a lunch. We ate off the a la carte menu which I assume wasn't a lunch menu, but the offerings were typical lunch meals so that was fine. Its probably slightly on the pricey side when you move down the menu to things like the steak, but this is one of the fancier pubs locally and its not breaking the bank for a nice place to eat.
Warm welcome, starter of scotch egg was lovely! Main of a roast was nice but roast potatoes were not crispy on the outside at all really. Also the vegetables was half a carrot, a quarter of a parsnip and some cabbage. With a couple of improvements would be worth the money, lovely setting.
